Spatial orientation and mobility for people with visual impairments are the foundation of their rehabilitation, socialization, and self-realization in society.

The main goal of specialists is to teach people with visual impairments the basic techniques and techniques of orientation and safe movement in space.

Main tasks:

  • Motivation to the necessity of mastering the skills of independent spatial orientation and mobility;
  • Stimulating processes of compensating for lost visual functions by forming skills of active conscious use of remaining analyzers;
  • Teaching how to use remaining analyzers during orientation and movement in space;
  • Forming spatial representations and spatial thinking;
  • Forming topographic concepts when using relief schemes, maps, and mnemonic diagrams;
  • Teaching techniques of physical support for orientation and movement in space;
  • Teaching techniques and methods of using a white cane;
  • Forming skills of independent orientation and movement in closed and open space;
  • Teaching to use technical, digital, and other auxiliary means in the process of orientation and movement in space;
  • Teaching independent use of urban and intercity public transport;
  • Forming mobility skills in space through the use of communication adjustment techniques;
  • Increasing the level of individual mobility.
